House Huntng

Monday, June 6th 2005 @ 7:07 pm by Richard

Catherine and I have been doing quite a bit of house hunting recently, we have needed to as our current tennancy agreement runs out at the end of June! Over the last week we have looked at about 10 houses, so far we have found three possable houses. The first unfortunatly was somewhat over valued and we had to turn it down although the location, space and decour was almost exactly what we wanted. Interestingly enough it is still on the market.

Two other properties are much of a muchness, they have about the same space and cost the same, both are converted houses (something I think I prefer over flats) I haven’t seen the second one myself.

We did take a look at a house in Hove that made us (and the letting agent) laugh, first of all the banister was very very loose… and i mean one swift kick and it would be at the bottom of the stairs, then whatever we touched round the house seemed to either come off in our hands or not be what we expected.

Oh and one last gripe, it seems that Your Move wont give lettings for people who are not able to give them a Home or Work landline… there are more than a few people in the country who don’t have a need for a landline… why pay £10 a month just to have a phone that can’t follow you arround! My mobile serves us perfectly well if someone wants to have a conversation with us they phone us after 7 and we phone them back, I don’t see the arguement that “everyone must have a landline!”

The Gift Registry – LIQUIDATION

Wednesday, October 13th 2004 @ 5:59 pm by Richard

My mother just e-mailed me to say “I am sure you have heard the bad news by now”… took be a good time to figure out what she was talking about, looked at the Gift Registry web-site.. They went into liquidation last week.

Can anyone who bought gifts via the Gift Registry please contact your credit card companies to arrange a claim and you can get your money back. Unfortunatly anyone who paid with a debit card or by any other means will probably not be able to claim your money back. The administrators have said that they will be writing to all creditors, again unfortunatly this could take some time as when a company goes into Administration, banks and secured creditors get money first, then employes then customers and other non-secured creditors.

I havn’t spoken to Catherine about how we are going to manage this but I will talk to her tonight when she gets back from Sign Language, we may have to set up a gift list with Debenhams or similar to allow you to buy the items we requested.

Watchdog and The Gift Registry 2

Wednesday, October 6th 2004 @ 4:44 pm by Richard

As promised here is the link for the watchdog report on The Gift Registry, I have been on the phone to them, and they said:
“the account has been flagged with a problem”
She (her name is Debbie) then went on to explain that this was usualy due to a credit card being declined, from one of the guests… now don’t worry as the Gift Registry will be contacting those who have had problems with credit cards.

They have said that they are going to phone be back tomorrow and explain to me exactly what the problem is.

I will keep you updated!

Watchdog and The Gift Registry

Tuesday, October 5th 2004 @ 9:47 pm by Richard

Some of you may of been watching BBC’s Watchdog and seen The Gift Registry on the program. From what my parents told me (as did not see it myself). The Gift Registry, have been very poor in the past when shipping out gifts, there has also be some incidents of people being given vouchers for all of their purches only to realise that the sum of the vouchers does not cover the cost of the gifts.

I will try and keep you posted.

Sad News

Friday, September 24th 2004 @ 7:20 pm by Richard

Hello Everyone who is reading, thank you all for your messages and posts it is really great to feel that people are thinking about you, praying about you and most importantly wanting to know about you.

We have been having some sad times recently as Yesterday was Catherine’s Grandfathers funeral, it has been putting a lot of strain on us just having something else to deal with. Catherine has not been well either, although she is now on the mend. We are finaly getting our home sorted out.

At the funeral the song “My Way” was played, I think is summerises Catherine’s Grandads life.

And now, the end is near;
And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I’ll say it clear,
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain.

I’ve lived a life that’s full.
I’ve traveled each and ev’ry highway;
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Regrets, I’ve had a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption.

I planned each charted course;
Each careful step along the byway,
But more, much more than this,
I did it my way.

Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt,
I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all and I stood tall;
And did it my way.

I’ve loved, I’ve laughed and cried.
I’ve had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say – not in a shy way,
“No, oh no not me,
I did it my way”.

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows –
And did it my way!

24 Hours of Marriage

Sunday, September 5th 2004 @ 4:26 pm by Richard

Well Catherine and I have now been married for over 24 Hours, the day went so well, it is almost unbelievable that it wasn’t actually a dream. The biggest disaster of the day was Susan (Catherine’s Mum) throwing chocolate down her dress.

We got a chance to go and visit Catherine’s Grandfather in Hospital, as he was unable to see the wedding, so in we walked into the hospital me in full suit, waistcoat, tie and buttonhole and Catherine in her dress, veil with her boquet. It made for some very happy paitents, not least Catherine’s Grandfather.

We have opened most of the presents now, more still to come from the Gift Registry in a couple of weeks. 07:45 tomorrow we will be heading off to the train station to travel down to Cornwall, via Bath!, for our honeymoon.

Many thanks to everyone who made it a great day for us. God Bless

6 Days To Go

Sunday, August 29th 2004 @ 8:49 pm by Richard

Getting very close now, Catherine and I went to the wedding reception of one of my friends yesterday. It felt quite weird seeing them married and thinking that that will be us next week. They were both really encoraging to us, “Have a nice day” is much better than “Good Luck”.

It was very nice to see some old friends from HP, hopefuly I will get to see a some more next weekend. Although I reckon Catherine and I only get 2 minutes to talk to each person at the reception, so if you are comming then don’t be too offended if we only get to say “Hi.. How are you… got to rush…” we will endeavor to let you get a word or two in.

Catherine’s Leg

Tuesday, May 11th 2004 @ 8:58 pm by Richard

Catherine has managed to pull various ligaments in her leg, knee and foot. Surprisingly enough she did not manage this through any heroc dive to save a child, or some nasty ladder accident… no she did it by moving her leg.

We don’t know how it happened, but she was near on immobalised with it after she did it and it is slowly getting better two days later.

We met up with Mark today in town and spent some time with him on the beach before heading up to Churchill Square to have a drink. I am still not well, I was flaking while I was out because of the heat and dehydration. Catherine is worried that I am getting headaches because of the come down from the paracetamol that I am taking to get rid of the headaches, which is odd as I never had that before.

Anyway, we will try and blog more, for all those people that have given up on us and gone away.
